I. n. A clamour, uproar.Fif. 1825 Jam.:
Gild of lauchin, loud laughter.

II. v. To make a clamour, to fuss.s.Sc. 1897 E. Hamilton Outlaws 7:
They must needs gild around these brutes, and make heroes of them and weave about them a framework of romance.

[O.Sc. has gild, noise, clamour, from 1508, of obscure origin.]
