‡GERBICK, n. Also gerdbalk, gard-, gord-, -bolk (Jak.), gorba(c)k. A ridge of earth thrown up to mark the boundary between two patches of arable land, prob. orig. the demarcation line between different properties (Ork. 1825 Jam., gorback; Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1914 Angus Gl., gorbak; †Ork. 1929 Marw.), “a strip of grass between corn ridges” (Edm., gerbick; ‡Sh.10 1954, local). Cf. Gersty. [′gɛrbək, -ɑk, ′gor-]
