GAVEL, n.3, v.2 Also gwavel.

I. n. A wide-open door.Abd.6 1910:
Steek that gwavel o' a door, an' keep oot the caul' win'.

II. v. Of a door: to stand wide open (Abd.6 1913).Bnff.2 1930:
Fu div ye leave the door gavelin' t' the wa' like that?

[Appar. a vbl. usage of Gavel, n.1, prob. developing from the comb. gavel-en', used adv. = end-on, being taken as a pr.p. as in 1930 quot. and hence giving rise to a finite v. The n. is either from the v. or a direct extension of Gavel, n.1, 1.]
