FOISTEST, adj. ?Rnf. 1790 A. Wilson Poems 202:
That remnant o' a man Her foistest brither Jock.

[Jam. explains as "next in age," attempting to derive from Gael. faisge, nearest, but suggests the emendation foster-, which has been adopted in all posthumous editions of Wilson. The word is certainly corrupt.]
