FLAVER, n. The grey-bearded oat, Avena fatua.Dmf. 1812 W. Singer Agric. Dmf. 198:
The gray awned oats, which were mostly in use in the memory of old people, under the name of the flaver.
Sc. 1845 Stat. Acc.2 XV. 119:
The oats in general use are the grey-bearded or old Scotch flaver.
