FILBOW, n. Also felba. A blow, whack, thump (Abd. 1825 Jam.; Mearns5 1944). [′fɪ̢lbə]Abd. 1916 T.S.D.C. II.:
He wudna behave, so she gied him a felba.

[Origin obscure. Phs. a variant of Filp, a fillip, the second syllable arising from o [on] in such expressions as a filp o 'e lug by wrong division.]
