EVIDENT, n. Sc. law: documentary proof, evidence (of a person's title to anything); a title-deed (n.Sc. c.1730 E. Burt Letters North Scot. (1754) I. 75). Now practically obs. (Sc. 1946 A. D. Gibb Legal Terms 32).Sc. a.1714 in Earls of Crm. (ed. Fraser 1876) II. 488:
The house of Illandonan was furthwith delyvered to him, with the charter-cheist and evidents of his estate.
Abd. 1727 in Process Powis v. Fraserfield (1805) 323:
Admitting the town charter to be the rule, it was a bounding evident, and so they could not goe beyond the limitts prescryb'd in the charter.
Sc. 1773 Nairne Peerage Evidence (1874) 169:
These presents shall be habit and repute a valid and delivered evident.
Sc. 1818 Scott Rob Roy xxvi.:
I could show ye letters . . . they are amaist a' about borrowed siller, sae the gude deacon that's dead and gane, keepit them as documents and evidents.
