DOONDIE, Dundie, n. [′dundi, ′dʌndi]
1. “A coalfish in its third or fourth year” (Ork. 1929 Marw.).
2. A large lean cod, a cod after spawning (Ork. 1883 J. R. Tudor Ork. and Sh. 652; 1900 E.D.D., doondie; 1929 Marw.); “a diseased cod-fish” (Ork. 1900 E.D.D.); also used as a nickname for the inhabitants of Papa Westray (Ork. 1883 J. R. Tudor Ork. and Sh. 204).
