DIPPER, n. A small "double-ended" boat, with a "dipping lug," i.e. a single lugsail which has to be lowered (or dipped) to allow the boat to be brought round from one tack to the other. The mast is set very far forward (Kcb. 1940 (per Lnk.11)).Ork. 1880 Dennison Sketch-Bk. 114:
[I] wad no' gae her for your dippers.
