DEARTH-CAP, n. comb. "The name given in the Carse of Gowrie to a species of fungus which in its form resembles a bowl, or what is in Scot. called a cap, containing a number of seeds. It must have received its name from being supposed to afford a supply in a time of scarcity" (Sc. 1825 Jam.2); "probably Nidularia campanulata" (B. and H.).
