COURT-HOUSE, n. comb. A building in which courts of law are held. Given in some Eng. dicts., but quots. in N.E.D. after 1776 are Sc. Known to Bnff.2, Abd.2, Ags.17 1940.Sc. 1818 Scott H. Midlothian xxvii.:
She had looked anxiously for Butler in the court-house.
Wgt. 1875 W. M'Ilwraith Guide to Wgtsh. 35:
At the east side of the square [in Wigtown] is the New Court-House.
