COUPAL, n. (See quot.)Bnff. 1880 J. F. S. Gordon Chrons. of Keith 418:
A piece of small cord was firmly tied round a sheep's foot (causing lameness). It was said to be an incurable disease called the Coupal. (This trick was done by the men servants to get mutton for their own use.)
