The spirit of the Scotch at the Union clang fondly to these emblems [the regalia].
Per. 1864 J. M. Peacock in Harp of Perthshire (ed. R. Ford 1893) 239:
Whan a' ither fouk in the fashion wad be, My auld Scottish bonnet clang couthie to me.

[Either a literary revival of the pa.t. of O.E. clingan, clang, clungen, or formed on analogy with verbs like drink, drank; ring, rang, etc. The form is not found in O.Sc.]
