†CLACH-COAL, n. comb. Cannel coal (Ayr. 1825 Jam.2), a kind of coal which burns with a strong light.
[E.D.D. derives clach from Gael. clach, a stone; cf. Ger. steinkohle, anthracite, pit-coal (Flügel). A connection, however, with the echoic Clack is suggested by the crackling noise which this coal makes in burning.]You may wish to vary the format shown below depending on the citation style used.
