Dangling . . . frae the kitchen ciel o' the Priory o' Pittenweem.

[Fr. ciel, a canopy, Lat. caelum, sky. Eng. has ciel, v., variant of ceil, but the form ciel is not found as a noun and ceil = ceiling is poet. and rare (see N.E.D.).]
