CHEATHER, Chether, Chedder, n. and v. [′tʃɛðər, ′tʃɛdər]

1. n. A layer, tier.Mry. after 1750 Pluscarden MS. II. 120:
Here they [peats] are left on their ends till they are some “scraggened” when they are then set one above the other in “chethers” and turned over and over till dry.

2. v. To build peats for drying (Nai., Mry. 1916 T.S.D.C. II., cheather, chedder).
