CATALOGUE, n. A roll, register. Obs. or arch. now in this sense in Eng.Sc. 1933 Univ. of Edb. Jnl. VI. 10:
Any man who could wear such headgear and refer to his class-roll as a “catalogue” . . . was indeed a man of high moral courage . . . and, to the confusion of the wretched censor, we scraped our feet in unison.
Gsw. 1927 D. Murray Old College of Glasgow 152:
The duty of the one censor [c.1840] was to call the roll — formerly in Glasgow and still in America known as the “Catalogue” — and note the absents.
