CARRON-NAIL, Carrion nail, n. comb. The nail holding the body of a cart to the axle-tree (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B., carron-nail, obsol., carrion nail, obs.). Known to Abd.2 1938.Rxb. 1873 Trans. Hawick Arch. Soc. 202:
He would sooner nail his hat on his head wi' a carrion nail.
