BREID, v. [brɛid, bræid]

1. To sprout; to grow, of corn.Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
De corn is weel breided de year, the corn grows well this year.

2. Of cultivated land: to produce corn.Ib.:
Yon tun breids better as [“than”] ony idder tun, on that field (that farm) better corn is grown than on any other.

[Cf. Norw. brydda, to sprout, of corn, etc., from broddr, a spike (Torp). See also Breard. The diphthong in breid is irregular.]
