BONOUR, Bonnar, n. A bond.Sc. [1769] D. Herd Sc. Songs (1776) II. 190:
I've taen three riggs of bra' land, And hae bound mysel under a bonour. [R. Jamieson, Pop. Ballads, I. 312, spells this bonnar.]

[Perhaps for *bonder. Jam. suggests a Fr. origin. Godefroy gives boniere, mesure de terre, but the extension of meaning makes this doubtful. L.Lat. bonnarium denotes a certain measure of land.]
