BONNETIE, n.2 “The little grebe, Tachybaptes fluviatilis” (Ags. 1885 C. Swainson Brit. Birds 216). But more prob. the great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus) if “bonnetie” refers to the tuft of feathers on the head of the breeding bird (Fif.1 1935).
