BODACH-BAC(K), BODDACH —, n. “A wedge-shaped peat that has first to be cut out of a fresh peat bank to open the way for the peat-cutting implement” (Cai.8 1936); “the outside peat in a peat bank” (Cai. 1914 T.S.D.C. I., boddach — ). See also Boglo.

[From Gael. bodach, an old man, “a term applied in Gael. to other objects as indiscriminately as Jack. in Eng.” (R.B.). Bac(k) may be either Gael. bac, a bank, or O.N. bakki, idem. See Bakk. n.1, etym. note.]
