BEGGING-WEED, n. Garment worn by a beggar. In Scotland the licensed beggar wore a blue gown.Sc. 1904 Hind Horn in Ballads (ed. Child) No. 17 G.xiii.:
Ye'll lend me your begging-weed, And I'll lend you my riding-steed.
