3. adj. Crazy. Prob. shortened for begeickt, with an extension of the orig. meaning. See Begunk, 3.Per. 1895 R. Ford Tayside Songs 216:
Frae east o't to wast o't there's no' a young blade But's fairly begeick 'bout the minister's maid.

[Begaik, v., occurs once in O.Sc. as another reading for bejaip, to befool, in Dunbar's Tua Mariit Wemen (S.T.S.) (a.1513) 452. In Mod.Sc. the verb appears in A. Ross Helenore 1768. The first appearance of the noun in N.E.D. is 1600. Bense derives it from M.Du., M.Low Ger. begecken, to deride. See Geck.]
