BASKET, n. in the phrases: (1) cairry the basket; (2) hae a basket.(1) Abd.9 1918:
To cairry the basket — e.g. “Oh! aye, he or she eesed tae cairry the basket.” Usually spoken derogatorily of one who has risen in the world a bit.
(2) Abd.12 1918:
To hae a basket, an expression used among pedlars, hawkers and others to express that a person is licensed, and peddles from door to door.
