BARRIER, n. A thrasher.Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 49:
Every wheel he gives it [the swoople], he leaps over it, and so produces a very singular dance, . . . yet few of the barriers who do this dance in style, are willing to perform before spectators.
