BARME HORSE, n. (See quot.) Not known to Ags.1Ags. 1808 Jam.:
But the phrase is still used in Angus, where a barme horse signifies a horse without a saddle; “to ride a barme horse,” to ride without a saddle.

[The word occurs in Wyntoun's Orig. Chron. c. 1420 V. viii. 3727 (S.T.S.), when Edward Balliol is said to have escaped from Annan. The word is no longer current in Ags.]
