BARETAIL, BAIRTAIL, adv. (See quots.). [′beərtel]Cai. 1914 D. G. Henderson in T.S.D.C. I. 17:
Baretail, a word applied when one is left with less than their due or with nothing.
Cai.3 1933:
“He has been left bairtail” — said of one who expected to be left something after the death of a friend and got little or nothing. Or “He has left him bairtail” — said of one who has given means or hospitality to another who has lived on him until such means or hospitality was exhausted.
