BACK, BAUK, n.3 An instrument for toasting bread; also used for a common girdle in some parts of Angus.Sc. 1808 Jam.:
Back. An instrument for toasting bread above the fire. It resembles a girdle in form; but it is much thicker, and made of pot-metal.Ags.10 1925:
When she saw them comin', she on wi' the back to fire her bannocks.Ags. 1929 (per Abd.1):
