AUM, AWM, v.

1. To treat with alum (as in tanning, making tinder, etc.).Sc. 1825 Jam.2:
To awm, to dress [skins] with alum.
Bnff. 1866 Gregor D.Bnff. 9:
Awm, to soak paper in a solution of alum and water to make tinder.

2. To thrash, cf. “tan one's hide.”Ib.:
Awm, to beat soundly.
Abd. 1898 G. W. in E.D.D.:
I'll aum yer hide for ye.
