ASWOON, adv. Swooning, fainting.Abd. after 1768 A. Ross The Fortunate Shepherd MS. 124:
Up looks the wife an' spies him up and down, Her limbs they shook and she near fell aswoon.

[A, pref.1 + swoon. See Asoond. Aswoon is prob. from geswōgen, pa.p. (from O.E. swōgan, resound, sigh, sough), in a swoon, dead, silenced (Sweet), written also a swoon, then on swoon, from 1325–1500 in swoon, after 1500 in a swoon. In swoun, aswoune, aswoon are found in O.Sc.]
