Sc. usages: (see quot.)Abd. 1825 Jam.2:
A piece of English, dictated to boys at school, to be turned into Latin; the subject of a version.

[From the reference in Jamieson's Preface to his Suppl. (1825) x., it seems very probable that Dr Melvin of Abd. Gr. Sch. was the authority for the Sc. use of this word. The term is no longer in use in Aberdeen schools.]
