APPEARANCE, n. In Sc. law to enter appearance is to signify one's intention of defending an action either in the Court of Session or in the Sheriff Court.Sc. 1909 Green's Encycl. Law Scot. I. 426:
Intimation to the Clerk at the Register House by the agent, that he enters appearance for his client, and giving the name of counsel, is sufficient.
Sc. 1909 Green's Encycl. Law Scot. I. 427:
A defender signifies his intention of defending an action by entering appearance. This he does by lodging [a notice] with the Sheriff-Clerk.
