ANGER-NAIL, n. A Sc. equivalent of agnail (in Eng. dial. also hang-nail). Cf. Rag-nail. [′ɑŋər′nel]w., s.Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B. 42:
Anger-nail. A loose or torn piece of skin at the base of the finger-nail.

[From O.E. angnægl, corn on the foot, altered by pop. etym.; anger having the old sense of “irritation, inflammation.” ]
