Wik(k)it, Wikke(i)t, Wykket, n. Also: wikett, vikat, vikket, wickit, -at, -et, -ed, weket, weiket(t. [ME and e.m.E. wykett (1296), wicat (13th c.), wiket (a1300), wicket (a1400-50), wekett (a1483), AF wiket, OF guichet.] A small door or gate, chiefly or only one in or beside a large door or gate for use when it is closed. Usu. permitting entrance to or exit from a town. Also attrib. and comb. b. fig.or in fig. context. c. A door giving access to the weights of a clock.(a) a1500 Sir Eger 1789.
