(Wattirit,) Watterit, -yt, ppl. adj. Also: wat(t)ered, watired, vaterit, watert, walterit. [ME and e.m.E. wattryd (a1400), watteryd (c1430), watred (1535), watered (1552), waltered (?1595).]

5. Of metal: Gilded by a process of water gilding whereby gold leaf is applied by the agency of water. Also fig.b. Prob. erron. for unwatterit (Unwattirit ppl. adj.) or, ? less likely, damascened, having a wavy, lustrous pattern, as in 4 above. This sense is not, however, recorded in Eng. before 1839. 1637 Rutherford Lett. (1894) 542.
