Tummell, n. Also: tummaill, -ill, twmmell, tumbull, tounmell, tunmylne, -mill, tunnell, tinnel(l, tinowall. [? Tun n. Cf. ME and e.m.E. tynel (1336-7), tynnell (1540) a vessel, OF tinel. Cf. Tyne n.2] A funnel for pouring liquid into casks.The forms with -mm- may be an interpretation of MS tūm- which could be read as tunm-.(a) 1567 Kirkcaldy B. Rec. 315.
