[ME and e.m.E. þider (c1175), tiderr (Orm), þidder, þedir, -er, þeþir, þiþer (all Cursor M.), þiddire (1340-70), thider (Chaucer), thether (1526), thither (1548-9), OE ðider, þider, þæder, ON þaðra.]The y forms appear to be abbreviations, where initial y- is a scribal form of þ, and the following vowel is omitted.
