Also: stokinis, -es, stoke(i)ns, -eines, stokinges, stockines, -ens, -ennes, -eines, -eenes, -ones, stoquens, stuckhans, stookinges, stockeningis, -en(g)is, -eingis. Sing. stockine, -en. Coll. stoeikeing. [e.m.E. stockings (1583), stokyngs (1586), sing. stockin (1694); coll. stocking (1599); Stok v.1 3.] A (pair of) stockings. Also with various qualifiers specifying the material, purpose, etc. of the stocking.For ryding … stockins, cf. riding sokkis Riding vbl. n. 4 b. Stirrup stockens, ‘a kind of footless stocking having a strap which passes underneath the foot’ (OED, s.v. Stirrup n. 2 c). Halfe stockings, ? stockings coming halfway up the leg. Cf. Half adj. 3 c.
