Sketh, n. [Of doubtful origin, but possibly f. ON skíð a billet of wood, or OE scíd Schide n. Cf. e.m.E. and mod. Eng. skidde (1609-10) a beam, plank or piece of timber (on which something rests), skid (1846) a plank or roller on which a heavy thing may be slid or pushed along.] ? A wooden support, platform or slipway. — 1598 Edinb. D. Guild Acc. 674.
