Skellit, Skillet, n. Also: skeilet, -it. [Late east-midl. ME skelett (a1403), e.m.E. skillet (1519), skellet (1530), of uncertain derivation, but cf. OF escuelete, esculette a small plate (OED).] A skillet, a cooking pan used for boiling, stewing, etc. Also attrib. 1631 Buccleuch Household Bk. 26 Sept.
