(Siment,) Syment, Symond, n. Also: simont, symont, symound, -mount, symo(u)n(e, sement, seymont, seymoune. [South. and midl. ME and e.m.E. syment (c1300), siment (c1320), sement (Trevisa), scyment (c1420), north. ME and e.m.E. symonde (c1440), symunt (1562) (also ciment, cement, etc.), F. ciment (12th c. in Larousse), L. cæment- rough unhewn stone.] Cement, or one of various similar types of adhesive; also, the adhesive base used for binding pigment in mixing colours.
