Set, conj. Also: sett, sed. [ME sett (Gower, once). Prob. f. imper. or p.p. form of Set v. in the sense ‘to put the case’, ‘to suppose (that)’. Cf. G. gesetzt = ‘on the assumption that’.] Though, although. Cf. Alset conj. Also const. set (th)at.Common chiefly in early verse.(1) a1400 Leg. S. xxx 214.
