Rod, Roid, Rude, n.3 [Of unknown origin. Cf. mod. Sc. dial. rodd n. = spawn of a fish or frog, v. = to spawn, and Roding vbl. n. See also Rede n.7] The spawn of a frog, toad or fish; the act of spawning. Also attrib. — 1496 Orkney Antiq. Soc. III 52.
