Rich(e, adj., adv. and n. Also: rych(e, ritch(e, richt; rech(e; reich; rach(e, ratch. Superl. also: (richesest). [ME and e.m.E. ri(h)che, ric(c)he, OE ríce. See also Rik adj. and n.²‘In ME the use of the word may have been reinforced by F. riche … itself of Teutonic origin. This would help to explain the early disappearance of the northern form rik.’ (OED).]
