ME and late ME rehete to cheer, to refresh (thirst) (Rolle), to entertain with food and drink (c1470 and c1475), thereafter appar. obs., OF reheter, -heiter, -haiter, ? of same ulterior origin as Hate adj.] a. tr. To encourage, cheer. ? Also b. reflex. To refresh (oneself), also intr. as reflex. Only in early verse. — a1400 Leg. S. xxvi 341.
