Peug, Pewg, n. Also: pewig, (? pewige or ? powige); piug; poug. [e.m.E. and late ME. pewke (1466), pewyke (1481), puke (1480), puck, pooke (16th c.), a superior kind of woollen cloth, also (1530) a colour used for woollen cloth, also puke colo(u)r (1538); MDu. puuc, puyc, puc (1420 in Verdam) the best sort of cloth or wool, mod. Du. puik the best, the choice of anything, also adj. = excellent, MLG. puck, LG. pük, EFris. püük, WFris. puwck, NFris. pük. Cf. Paig.] A woollen stuff of high quality, puke.
