Nichbour, Nichtbour, Nighbour, Nightbour, n. Also: ny(c)h-, nyth-, ny(c)ht-, nyt-, (nyct-), nyghnyght-, (nocht-) and -bour(e, -bowr, -bur(e, -buir, -pur, -bor(e, -ber, -biar. [Sc. var. of Nechbour: cf. ME. nijhge- (13th c.).] A neighbour.In many instances the forms nicht-, nycht- no doubt represent editorial expansions of the abbreviated ni^t, ny^t.
