Metly, a. (Cf. (1) ME. metely, meetly, moderate, of moderate size, adequate but not excessive (14th c.), fitting, proper (1426), f. Mete a.1; (2) north. ME. metli (Cursor M.) moderate, adequate, perh. identical with (1) but cf. OE. ᵹemetlic f. ᵹemet measure, moderation, Met n.) — c1420 Ratis Raving 1320.
