Lorch. (? Misreading of birch, though Brodie elsewhere has for this the Sc. form birk; or ? cf. e.m.E. larch(e (1548). Germ. lärche also lorche (Grimm) the larch tree; or ? cf. F. phrase estre lourche, Germ. lurz werden, see Lorch,v.) — 1656 Brodie Diary 174.
